In 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon. This was one of the biggest technological and scientific milestones in human history. By creating "Lunacy", FIRST is celebrating the accomplishment of NASA, one of FIRST's primary sponsors.
What is Lunacy?
For the 2009 season, FIRST has designed an ingenious game, Lunacy, which combines many challenges. Every year FIRST game designers strive to create a game that will be challenging for veteran teams but remain achievable for rookie teams.
According to the Oxford dictionary, Lunacy means:
1 insanity (not in technical use).
2 extreme folly.
This adequately describes the nature of the game. When Lunacy is played, it is chaos caused by robots. As the robots slip on a floor that simulates the one-sixth gravity of the moon, the players are trying to score moon rocks into the trailers behind the robots. It all leads to a fast-paced game. How is the game played?
